    OLH SUMMER ADVENTURES

    PREP 7 GIRLS AMONG TRIATHLETES

    AS SENT BY HELENA GREDYSA
Two of my classmates in Prep 7 (Kenzie Bamberger, Ella Reese) participated in a special program called I-TRI.   This  is an empowering, non-profit organization which trains girls from ages 11-13 to compete in a Triathlon. The second I got to the first practice, I felt at home. Everyone was kind and welcoming, and I felt extremely comfortable around them. We went over many topics, and I-Tri helped me realize that many of these girls were just like me!
Over a couple of months, we went over the three things we will do in the Triathlon: swimming, biking, and running. The first practices covered basic physical activities. My coach, Natalie, gave us fun ways to be more active. From choreographing workouts to songs, to playing Ninja Tag, she made us feel like we were part of a community.
A month or so after, we started training at the Suffolk County Community College. We would start off by doing some running, followed by swimming practice. Our coaches encouraged us to do our best and helped us realize that we could do it, no matter how hard it may seem.
Going out of our comfort zones became a not so scary thing!  Our final training sessions were at Long Beach in Sag Harbor. We would practice swimming, biking, and running there! We were pushed to our limits, but at the end of every single training I knew that I could do it.   Finally the day of the race arrived. We were all very nervous, but knowing we have each other gave us courage and confidence. Girls who never knew how to ride a bike, but learned during the program, biked the full six miles! Those who never swam before - learned and swam the 300 yards in the bay! I also completed the race and felt very accomplished.
Ella, Kenzie and I would be happy to share more in person and maybe encourage more of the OLH girls to join!

***This event was part of the Hamptons Youth Triathlon run in Sag Harbor that had 150 participants/
    The  OLH runners were:  123rd   Lana Lucas (6) , 108th Hudson Lucas (7),  98th   Elsie Barbour (7), 90th  Finn Tiska (7)   Makenzie Bamberger  73rd   (7), Helena Gredysa (7)  56th  , Rex Doerfler (7)  20th  , Ella Reese (7)
Ella finished 2nd in her age group   and 7th overall .

    SHARE OUR JOY!

    MIDDLE STATES

We are proud to share the good news that OLH has been granted re-accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

This comes after two full years of self-study by the faculty and scrutiny by a professional team of educators.

In addition to the general program, we were applauded for our outstanding fine arts program.
